From a single Oldsmobile dealership in 1924 to a $1 billion automotive group - our story.

ERA 1: THE FOUNDING ERA (1924 - 1948)

1924 - WHERE IT ALL STARTED

Seldon "Jack" Olsen founded the company in Morgan County, Utah, after signing an Oldsmobile agreement. His first sale was to Mountain Green resident O.W. Rollins.

1926 - FIRST EXPANSION

Olsen purchased the Parkinson Building in Morgan and converted it into a dealership - celebrating with a New Year's Eve grand opening dance.

1929 - CHEVROLET ERA BEGINS

Olsen signed his first Chevrolet contract - expanding the brand portfolio for years to come.

1930s - WEATHERING THE GREAT DEPRESSION

·         Repossessed 41 cars in 21 days under new lender rules

·         Bartered vehicles and service for goods

·         1935: Morgan dealership burned down; Olsen was injured saving the cash register 

1948 - A NEW CHAPTER IN LAYTON

Olsen opened Olsen Chevrolet on Main Street in Layton, Utah - an operation that still stands today.

ERA 2: THE YOUNG FAMILY ERA (1950s - 1970s)

EARLY 1950s - ENTER SAM YOUNG

Olsen hired his son-in-law, Sam Young, as a bookkeeper - beginning the Young family's legacy in the business.

1960s - A LEADER EMERGES

Sam Young rose through multiple management roles. The dealership saw consistent growth, and Young's sons began working in the business early.

1970s - THE NEXT GENERATION STEPS UP

Spencer Young began selling cars in his late 20s while his brothers took on growing roles. In 1979, Olsen passed away, leaving his shares to the Young family.

ERA 3: THE EXPANSION ERA (1980s - 1990s)

EARLY 1980s - SAM YOUNG TAKES THE WHEEL

Sam Young purchased sole ownership, renaming the dealership Young Chevrolet and acquiring a Pontiac dealership across the street.

1990s - STRATEGIC GROWTH UNDER SPENCER YOUNG SR.

·         Acquired Avis Car Sales in Ogden

·         Added dealerships in Kaysville, UT and Burley, ID

·         Launched a trailer division

·         Purchased Bonneville Raceway (later Rocky Mountain Raceways) 

ERA 4: THE DIVERSIFICATION ERA (2000s)

EARLY 2000s - BEYOND AUTOMOTIVE

Acquired Xtreme Xccessories and Young Wraps, broadening the group's services and customer reach.

2007 - GIVING BACK

Spencer Young Sr. and his wife Sherry co-founded the Young Caring for Our Young Foundation - supporting children and families facing poverty.

LATE 2000s - SURVIVING THE RECESSION

Through the national economic collapse, Young Automotive Group kept every location open - with zero layoffs.

ERA 5: THE MODERN GROWTH & BILLION-DOLLAR ERA (2010s - 2025)

2011-2014 - DOUBLED IN SIZE

The Young Automotive Group expanded from 4 to 9 locations in just three years.

MID-2010s - LEADERSHIP TRANSITION

Spencer Young Sr. stepped down as President. Spencer Young Jr. was named his successor, and the company formalized its core values and mission statement.

2021 - A MAJOR MILESTONE

Officially surpassed $1 billion in total revenue - a landmark achievement in the group's century-long journey.

2025 - WHERE WE ARE TODAY

Locations across Utah, Idaho, and Montana under Spencer Young Jr.'s leadership. The Young Caring for Our Young Foundation now donates millions annually to children's clothing, hunger, literacy, and wellness initiatives.
